Over twenty years ago the members of Freya Lodge began hosting an event that was named Viking Fest. The festival is held annually in conjunction with Leif Erikson Day, which celebrates the Norwegian landing in North America nearly 500 years before Columbus. Leif Erikson Day has been proclaimed annually by each United States President since 1964.
A one of it's kind event in the Sonoma County area designed to share Nordic culture as well as raise funds for Freya Lodge, Viking Fest features vendors selling imported Scandinavian items not readily available in the area, a bake sale and raffle as well as a lunch menu, a "Taste of Norway" prepared by our members from fresh local ingredients, of traditional Norwegian sandwiches, dishes and desserts. The 2013 event, our 26th annual, will be held on Saturday October 19th from 10 AM to 3 PM.
Through Viking Fest, we raise funds which we will use to help support our lodge operations, cultural programs, award scholarships and help local schools through the Sons of Norway Adopt A School program. Freya Lodge and it's members, some of whom are alumni, are proud to be associated with Dunbar Elementary School of Glen Ellen.
See you at Viking Fest!!!!
