About Us
Organized in November 1951, Freya Lodge has been carrying on Norwegian and Scandinavian
traditions in the greater Sonoma County area for well over 50 years. Monthly Culture and Heritage programs and our calendar of social events are open to the
public as well as to lodge members and guests. At our lodge hall we maintain an active lending library of Scandinavian
themed books and other material for our members use and enjoyment. Members may also borrow from an extensive multimedia library at Sons of Norway International.
Throughout the year we learn about and celebrate our Nordic heritage and traditions with Culture
and Heritage nights. These are held at Norway Hall, our lodge building located in Santa Rosa.
Programs include multimedia presentation, folk dancing, Norwegian history and handcrafts and instruction in traditional cooking, to name but a few.
Please see our events page for upcoming culture and heritage events, as well as other Scandinavian themed events of interest around Northern California.
Freya Lodge is one of the many lodges within District Six of Sons of Norway.
As part of it's benefits to our membership, District Six owns and maintains a recreation facility at Alta, California, off Highway I-80 in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
At the recreation center, known as Camp Norge,
members can visit, vacation or meet with members of other lodges throughout the District. Our children and/or
grandchildren have the opportunity to attend a two week language-heritage camp during July and there are other events throughout the year
that members may attend.
Freya Lodge is a non-profit organization providing charitable contributions to individuals and organizations including:
- Ski for Light
- Tubfrim
- Scholarship Programs
- Camp Norge
- Sons of Norway Foundation
- Adopt A School
Sons of Norway members believe tradition and heritage are worth enjoying and preserving for future generations.
